ALAIN RESNAIS
The First thing that strikes you about Resnais films is his deeply formalistic approach to the slender narration that occupies his filmic space. His approach is a combination of his own Marxist orientation to art works in general and his deep interest in the psychological dimension of every human being's obsession with memories and desires. His films trap the viewers within the dilemma of causality do memories evoke desires or do desires evoke memories? How artificial are the constructs of memories and desires? Are we ultimately what we are because of how we construct our past, value our present and project ourselves into the future? This is the focus of his enquiry, both in form and content.

AMOS GITAI
"The cinema is powerful-it can mythologize experience, but it also demythologize it. Today Israel is caught in a complex dialectic: it is a country that has to "fabricate" a mythical image in order to encourage the solidarity of the International Jewish community; but in order to survive, it has to demythologize the image of model Israeli, an invincible man of marble. Israel has to find a place in the quotidian, in a normal way of life or in modernity."
Amos Gitai
